I have used fiber optic sights on my older guns before "and liked them" but have come to really like well made night sights.
I just ask because I may (one day soon) put a Fiber Optic front sight on my full size DW Heritage since it's more of a range gun / Target gun.

And did you install it yourself? If so did you use a sight pusher?

Thanks,

Hey Ryan,

The Valor is my main USPSA and IDPA gun, and I like the FO sight for those purposes. My defensive guns have tritium night sights. For me, the main advantages are quicker front sight focus and transitions to the next target. For more difficult targets that require a deliberate followthrough, I don't think the FO helps much if at all.

Interestingly, I find that I like having the small dot on the Heinie rear sight.

I did install it myself, using the included aluminum punch, and a file. My Valor has a pretty tight taper, and I had to do quite a bit of filing, trying, and filing again.

Nice well thanks for posting and responding. I have been thinking of getting into some IDPA if I can find when and where they have them in the Kansas City area.
I might try an FO front sight on my Heritage and see how I like it.

Yea I would probably do the installation myself the same way you did - file and tap...etc I know sight pusher tools are real popular with sig's and Glocks...etc but truthfully I am not sure if anyone really uses them on there 1911's.

Anyways thanks for the post.

This was Wade's, and started out as a stainless model. He sent it off to Dave Severn and had the hard hat finish and a few other touches. It's my first 1911, and I am SO glad I didn't buy a cheaper one when it felt like I was never going to get enough money saved! As a long time owner of polymer centerfires and steel rimfire pistols, I just can't get over how thin this gun is. Only one trip out with it, and I'm already in love.

skosh69 12-10-2011 02:33 AM

Very nice Blue Ridge, love those grips....

Pawpaw 02-04-2012 01:41 PM

Here's my 2011 V-Bob. The only thing I've done is put in a C&S short, smooth trigger. I like her just as she is.

I've put about 1,000 trouble-free rounds down the pipe.

Stock, for now. Trigger pull is 3.5 pounds. Grips will be replaced by a set of mine as soon as I measure and cut one.

My new Vbob arrived yesterday. Standard in case pic. Haven't had time to do anything with it, but lots of fondling during the day at work.

And just that quick it's gone. I showed it to a regular customer and somehow he talked me out of it. I hate myself right now. But now I'm shopping again. Hope to find another.

BBP 02-18-2012 04:16 PM

And just that fast I'm back. Just ordered another one. It will get here next week. :)

Grouse 02-18-2012 07:29 PM

you will love shooting it. That bobtail is a dream on the palms and wrist for control.

New Grip on Display

I really like the stock VZs. But in the interest of science, I decided to try shooting without that extreme. Got this inexpensive pair off fleabay and gotta call them a win. I'll definitely have a choice when I try the carry thing 'cause 100 shots downrange and the strap and MSH checkering did plenty to keep things happy.

So ... the pics ...
