Well, everyone pretty knows what I currently do (I think), but I'll go through a little timeline like others.
First job in high school was in a lingerie store (yeah). Once I graduated I enlisted in the Marine Corps with the hopes of after being done with my enlistment I would come out and do what I am doing now. Well, that didn't work out. I made it to third phase boot and got sick. Since I went in with medical waiver I was discharged. I came home exactly a week before my platoon graduated. Didn't know what to do so I looked for a job as a cabinetmaker since that's the shop I took in high school. Did well, liked it and stuck with it for about 10 years. Decided I wanted to get back to what I originally wanted to do but before that I re-enlisted in the USNR under the APG program and did 8 years with a CB rating (BU3). No regrets except for the USMC. The only thing in my life I wish I had a do over. |

I'm beginning to think a Ron Jeremy icon is in order - that would be hilarious!!!

i must make the trifecta. I think gay porstar also.
I am your classic jack of all trades. It is legal i have probably done it, barring the pornstar thing.... If it is illegal, well I probably have not. Currently stay at home problem solver. We, my wife and i that is, have moved so many times people think we are in the hiding. So we enjoy the little joke. It's been a couple of years. That makes it about time to relocate. |
Well..... here goes:
I had a low draft number on the tail end of things and was concerned they would re-institute and I wanted to go to college, so I joined the Army. Started as MP, Accident Investigator, then Criminal Investigator. I went to Sniper School at Benning and was well on my way to being a "lifer" Feb. 1975, was holstering a model 19 S&W and Charlie, an attack dog saw the weapon and jumped on me, knocking me to the floor. The .357 discharged and a 110gr Super Vel round zinged thru my femoral artery. Somehow I had some sense and pinched the artery as it squirted me in the face trying to get up. I got to ER and a nurse I knew was working on me, starting two IV's and they were squeezing the bags because I was about out. I heard someone say "40 over zero" and saw the look on her face and her glancing at the monitor and at me. I felt a flutter in my chest and I knew my heart stopped. I woke up in OR when they were cutting into my legs with no anesthesia. Scratch career one! Next, I practiced law for 30 years and had made it real lucky. I specialized in trying cases before juries. Life was good. I did a female lawyer a freebie and told her I would handle her Dad's case that she was bungling. On the way back from the courthouse, we were rear ended and my hands went numb. My wife came to the scene and drove the other lady home and took me to work. I started back to work and she inquired if my hands were still numb. I replied "yes, but...." and she made me go to the hospital. At the hospital they did an MRI for 3 hours, I was in a cervical collar. Afterwards, they took me out and said " your back is injured and you have a giant kidney cancer" Over the next year I had the kidney removed, lumbar spine fused and the neck fused. To keep sane, I got heavily back into guns as something to keep occupied. I had a complication from surgery and if I close my eyes, I fall over backwards. I've fallen and broken my nose, torn ligaments off fingers and assorted maladies. I quit practicing law of course, so there went career two! Now I'm largely at home. I bought a log cabin in Bryson City NC after the idiot doctor at John's Hopkins misdiagnosed my falling as a disease that kills you in 4 or 5 years. Wife has always wanted one and I thought I was dying and would leave it to her. I've always hung around with GI's, gun folk and fishermen. Other than the job, I never felt I had that much in common with other lawyers. I always enjoyed helping folks, particularly when insurance companies did bad things. I'm waiting to figure out what God has in store for me next, I'm not ready for the barn. |

I ain't got the brass to be a dentist. And I ain't kidding. |
My story sounds boring after Shark's. I've worked in publishing of one type or another for more than 20 years. I started in newspapers, then in publishing software, then book publishing production, and now I run a book publisher for a large conservative media company, focusing on politics, healthcare, and financial investing.
