Pacific Northwest

Hi everybody,

I apologize...I've been mostly lurking for awhile. I will try to be more active--the thing is, I've been really busy.

One of the things I've been occupied with is finding where, outside of the People's Republic I want to live. I have finally found it, and bought a place in Port Angeles, Washington.

Are there any COTEPers in the area?

If you're driving up to Washington, better call me as you pass through the bay area, we'll have lunch.

I live in Tacoma. Welcome from Washington.

I'll be driving up the 5, but if I do get to the bay area I'll give you a shout.

It does feel like I'm escaping. It felt great to stop withholding CA state income taxes. Woohoo, more money for shooting! nanner

WA gun laws are unfortunately trending towards following CA, but they're still a few years behind and nothing nearly as stupid as CA has. Hopefully that won't change.

Here's some of the view from my new place (the forest is behind me, so I can hunt without driving anywhere :) )

That is awesome, great picture, that would never get old. I wish I could hunt from my own back door.

Welcome, I enjoyed that picture. My parents used to live a bit west of the airport in Port Angeles. Nice little town, wait till your first visit to Swains :)

On the advice of a friend, I stopped at Swain's the first time I went to Port Angeles. Mind blown. What a great place. I will be shopping there frequently.

The other amazing place I will spend too much money is the bookstore down town, Port Book and News.

Unfortunately the local gun store in Sequim has closed and there is nothing else nearby.

I think I remember an interview with the Motorcycle now gun builder Jessie James. He had no idea how much California had been stealing from him and his business till he moved to Texas. There was so much red tape and taxes and fees that he thought that was just how all states were. He said there was even a tax on closing a business. How crazy is that! You close your business and they still want your money so they bleed it from you even if you are closing!

Sorry to say, but you'll have sojourn across the Hood Canal bridge in to Kidnap county (Kitsap for those that don't live here), to find a gun shop. there are a couple in Silverdale and Port Orchard but the good ones are in the Tacoma area. The best (biggest) gun club in the state is there Washington Arms Collectors (WAC) and they hold monthly shows at the Puyallup and Monroe fair grounds. They're pretty big shows with quite a few ammo dealers. Google their web site. Unfortunately across the sound, Pugetroplus has been invaded by the liberal Commifronstanians and they're curtailing rights demanding rainbow crosswalks and paved hiking trails everywhere. Still the country up here is beautiful and when the rain and snow come back the idiots will retreat back across the water. Welcome to PA, good to have someone on our side of the fence. Congrats on your escape.nanner

Congratulations on your new home! (and on getting out of California). My wife and I left "The People's Republic of Connecticut" about a year and a half ago, settling just outside of Nashville. I still can't believe the freedoms we enjoy here that were somehow forbidden in CT and CA.

BEAUTIFUL country Washington is !! http://www.cotep.org/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif

Was on a 3 month motorcycle trip (7-8-9/1980) and had just climbed the Grand Teton (Wyoming) and was in Washington 3 months after the initial blast (5/1980) - took a plane (4 seater) ride around it at the time - the devastation was just UNBELIEVABLE. Climbed Mt. Rainer a few years later, the view from that peak was just awesome as well.
