Shooting Glasses
What do you use? I'm looking for suggestions on brand/style or if you just use your standard sunglasses (for outside) or safety glasses (ex: Home Depot style).
Is there an advantage to purchasing "shooting" glasses? I'm using the standard Home Depot style safety glasses right now but, they give me a headache if worn for a long period of time (I think it's because they have a funky curve to the lens). Caleb |
I use Randolph Rangers and Decot HY-Wyde. Rudy project are great glasses if you go for the wilder style. Shooting pistols it is not as important as shotguns and rifles.Shooting glasses are designed to set higher on the face (above eyes) so that when you lower your head you are not looking at the top of the frame. There are other issues like, prescriptions, you can get different color lenses for different conditions. Not just tinted, yellow and clear. The biggest difference is fit. A good set of shooting glasses can be fit so they are not moving all over you face and are optically correct and not just a cut out sheet of plastic. My 2 cents.

I've been using Revision Hellfly Ballistic eyewear for a couple of years now.
Very durable and light weight http://www.opticsplanet.com/revision...unglasses.html |
I have several, cheap brands, and they work for me. If you shoot in competition or just a lot, you may want to brand up. Oakley sunglasses are impact rated, so outside (before my grandson got ahold of them) I wore them.

I use Oakley SI Ballistic M Frame with the Ballistic lenses. I change lens color if I'm inside or outside
http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/safetyglassesusa_2272_44325875 I buy from here, and they always have coupons. They have lens separate too if you want different colors http://www.safetyglassesusa.com/okt-oo9146-01.html |

load em up with some crown! funny
I use oakley.... |
I use Decot HY-Wyde with my prescription and a +1 in my shooting lens.
That will give you a sharp front sight and a fairly sharp target. It will also blur out the rear sight (just what you want, Sharp in the front). But be prepared, these glasses are expensive, and they come in several colors. GaryR |

Great suggestions. I don't need any prescription (yet) in my safety glasses, just protection. I'm diggin' the O's mentioned, will have to check them out better when I get home.
Keep the suggestion comming, the more the merrier. |
PS: Any input on the S&W line of shooting glasses with the exchangeable lenses?

I mainly wear Nemisis glasses. They are readily available in the machine at work. You cannot beat free.

I wear my prescription glasses the VA gave me :D
Unless I'm sitting at the bench (seldom) I rarely use the sights. Draw, point, and shoot the hell out of the steel. I gave up MOA years ago. Now I concentrate on MOD (Minute Of Dead) |
I too use my prescription glasses....but I can use just about any pair safety glasse if I have to....I'm like Mike, forget MOA....I'm going for MOD!!!!
|
I still use my Ray Ban shooting glasses. Had them for a number of years and they are still going strong!!!:)

Also somewhat blind.....I use script glasses...yellow tint....BUT.....I have been wearing yellow tint for near fifteen years. Not just for shooting, all the time. Started when I played golf cause I could see the green better, carried into shooting. Now I shoot steel silhouettes, when I hear PING I am a success. |
