What Makes a 1911 a 1911?

I shoot 1911's almost exclusively now, these are are few good reasons why...

"Ergonomics. I really like the 11-degree grip angle. If I raise a 1911 towards a target downrange with my eyes closed, then open them, I’ll be pretty much on-target. A 1911 points naturally for me. I also like the circumference and grip size. It just works.

Single-action trigger. I like the combination of single-action operation and a non-hinged trigger. When I shoot, it’s easy for me to execute a smooth trigger pull."

The Glock 17's will never be thrown away, but I have really fallen back in love with the 1911 feel and follow up shots this last year or so.

Thanks for sharing the article, Brownie.

I agree, very informative article. Mine is a "junior"... actually I have the one pictured in the article. I love it. Have never considered a full size, or any .45, although if someone can distract Joe for a few minutes, maybe I can steal his SA black stainless. I shot it once, just a few rounds, but I shot better than I ever have with any of my own guns !!

1911 forever!

God Bless John Moses Browning!

It took me 40 years to come around to the righteous path. I piddled with all sorts of different pistols but I never even suspected that old "slab sides" was what I was looking for all along.

The only reason I finally gave in and tried it was that I had amassed a number of JMB designs and needed a 1911 for completeness.

Wish I had seen the light sooner!

If you have not fired a 1911, you are more than welcome to try mine sometime.

That sounds cool. I was going to take my "new" M1917 rifle to the range this past weekend, but lightening kept me away. We can trade shooting classics.

I have a few too many in my safe. Articles like this make me want to add a few more:eek:

Please quit posting these traps....

Need me to help you out with that problem? Hmmmmmmmmmm?

zukinut 07-30-2014 09:29 PM

Edgehill I had mine out at the FCC get together. You should have hit me up.

I cherish mine and it will never be sold after all the work I did to make it mine.

But I will say I do detest 1911's in 9mm or even 22lr. I know it was built for 38 super so thats ok. :D

Mine will going under the gun again here in the next couple months. It will be blasted and Duracoated again so it looks good :D

I agree, I have the sickness, too. So far anything I have shot, cannot top how I shoot with a 1911. Natural pointer and feels so right!

Wedding gift for me and wifey next month!

WARNING! 1911's can be addicting!

Riverpigusmc 07-31-2014 08:48 PM

I have carried one since 1979. When I slide it out of the sharkskin holster, the aura of John Moses Browning gathers around me, and Jesus himself beams his approval from above.

Ok, maybe not. Well, except the Jesus part
