RR 1945 Springfield Armory M1 Garand
I brought an old girl with me today from 1945. This Springfield Armory M1 Garand was purchased over 5 years ago and it came from the CMP (so its not a parts gun). I can only imagine what stories it could tell me if it spoke. [emoji23]Anyhow, this rifle came with original “GI” wood furniture and it shows with scratches, gouges, dents, chips, ect..... but, it has character. To preserve the furniture so it retains its value as it gets older and less rifles are available...... I purchased new wood furniture for it and sent it to AFJuvat for a refinish (the wood, not the rifle). This new stock has an amazing grain with some “tiger striping” and it fit the old girl like a glove. Unfortunately, while shooting it the upper hand guard retaining clip snapped and chipped off a piece of the upper guard (see pics). That sucked, trying to find a piece to match is going to be a pita.
The old girl shot great, as most Garands tend to do. Considering the front sight blade completely covers up the bullseye (2 1/2”) at 100yds, I think I shot well. Definitely M.O.M. Mike (aka Racer88) took a few shots and did well with it but, pussed our after a few rounds. I guess he couldn’t handle a man’s caliber (Lmao). Actually, he was the smart one today. My messed up shoulder feels like mush and feels like it got kicked by a mule. I guess we are spoiled with out low recoil calibers and super padded up buttstocks these days. Well enough chit chat, here are some pics of the old girl. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...daeb146736.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...3aeff9613a.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...10b29ddcf3.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...fdee3e55fe.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9c5ea99eaa.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...dd33a5479b.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...263cddd9f4.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...6db9c598a7.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

That FS2000 is fun (and easy) to shoot. Here is my target with it.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...88613ea92d.jpg Not bad for a first time shooting this Space Balls gun. I’m not going to even talk about the trigger, tho. All in all, it was a hot and fun morning with Mr. First. Oh Greg, just so you know Racer DID shoot my target for you. The M1 looks great bud, the broken hand guard certainly sucks though, is it repairable? Looks like a great day other than that.
Yep, that butt plate doesn't look all that comfortable .... even to look at. :D BTW, what spotting scope it that? Great write-up / pics !! |

Thanks bud. I’m not sure on the spotting scope, it belongs to Racer88..... I will ask him.
Update: His scope is a Konus 100mm <$400 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LDGTHX0..._uHeDDbCMNRB72 https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...6a8b55fdb8.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Ahh, that bruise will get a darker shade of black/blue and green in a few days time .... been there - done that.
Thanks for the spotting scope info. |

Every time I bring the Mosin out to shoot, I’m usually the only one to shoot it. Those guys in WWII were real men for carrying and shooting these guns.
Nice targets. |
Nice shooting. Bruised shoulders remind me of slug deer hunting growing up. Was great fun and getting a purple shoulder was a badge of honor

Nice shooting!
Not sure if that hand guard can be fixed or not. |
