Not sure on the light idea but I am a believer in the Kimber self defense spray. Shaped like a tiny plastic pistol, fits pockets and purses, shoots to self defense distance and comes with a practice unit and target for training. It works, I have purchased kits for my wife and the wives of friends and none of them have had to use it, so it repels evil doers.
PS, Joe, this stuff will put your lights out for several hours, so do not give it to anyone who doesn't appreciate headlights jokes.
