Why the 1911 is still a great gun for self defense and professional use

There is something about a 1911--History, look, feel etc, that cant be duplicated. With the 8-10 shot max rounds-weight and size, a lot of people choose the plastic. The 1911 is the Gibraltar rock of semi's in my opinion.
