The CMP reports that the Garand is slightly more accurate when chambered in 308 instead of 30-06, which is why they now offer Special Grade Garands in 308.

A few of the vendors that make and sell the reproduction tanker Garands do offer them in .308.

I've shot a reproduction tanker in 30-06. Muzzle blast was impressive!

The recoil was a bit heavy too. I can shoot my Garand all day. I was pretty much done with the tanker after 3 - 4 clips.
