I have a gun that's been welded. It works fine, but be aware the finish won't be the same...different alloys make the welded bits look different.

Nah, weld grind, polish, finish. Want a finished product. And if I decide to flat top the gun I need a solid top.

I have just read that there are welding sticks that take finishes well, but I am looking at TR Gun Kote so color won't be an issue. George Roghaar lives around the corner from me, he will do a great job and no shipping cost.

Joe, Brownells used to have dovetail blanks you could tap in spot weld then file and stone to shape, don't know if they still do though.

May be silly idea but why not buy a new slide that has t been notched yet?

Hmmmmm.....real blanks....but front sight is staked.
Talked to a friend last night, says steel epoxy will hold. I about fell over, good thing I wasn't imbibing. Epoxy? On a 1911 slide? World is changing, but I do not think "epoxy changing".
