I suspect that those of us (me, for sure, as I cannot remember the last time I had a confrontational situation) who do not do serious self defense training may very well carry and indeed practice target shooting, know how to handle our weapons in a range situation but are really not ready for the event where we will indeed need the skills necessary to survive an attack. By far our best defense is situational awareness and avoiding those areas where problems are prevalent. I wish I had been more focused on training over the years. Thank you for the tips in this thread. Dennis

That's one of the many skills brownie taught us in the Threat Focused Pistol Class Last November in Volusia.
Of course, in the class we were shooting paper, not steel.
