If I were to start a fantastic build now, I'd try really hard to snag a Geissele Super Duty Receiver Set tomorrow for $157.

Yep, that's more than an Aero or Anderson, but you're worth it.

Another super solid option is the Sionics Gutless Lower Assembly. I took this route with one, and it's a supremely well machined and finished lower.

If you'd really like a Colt 6900 series, there are options for that as well.

Brownells has the Colt LE6960-CCU upper on sale right now for $515, not including BCG. It should be possible to find a new Colt BCG for around $190. I bought the BCG for mine from Arms Unlimited. In case you don't know, the 6960 was a rifle Colt sold for a while with a mid-length lightweight (but not pencil) profile barrel, shaved FSB gas block under a Centurion Arms 13" M-LOK rail, an ambi safety, and a Magpul SL-S handguard.

In 2017, Brownells was selling complete Colt M4 lower receiver assemblies for $250. It shouldn't be too difficult to track one of these down without paying too much of a markup.

This will give you a close equivalent to the 6960 for a bit over $1,000, which is what basic 6920s now cost.

Well, we are on our way. Two lowers ordered.



1) Anderson Manufacturing - AR-15-A3 AR-15 Stripped Lower receiver


2) Radical Firearms Forged Stripped AR-15 Stripped Lower Receiver (RF-FL).


Plus some spare parts including:


1) Geissele Automatics G2S Two Stage AR-15 Trigger .154"




Expect shipping to my FFL in 5 business days. We'll see. But now I have to look at all the other parts, including the uppers.

Quick Update: Ruger Precision Rifle in .308 win acquired via Gunbroker Auction!





It was touch and go, actually, as these are in very heavy demand. I actually lost the first auction I tried last night. And today, I discovered why.



When you're looking to price the item properly on Gunbroker, pay attention to the "buy now" prices being offered on the system... not just the "initial bid" auction prices. You will, more than likely, be paying the "buy now" price anyway, as that's the going rate for the item in the general market. The item I bid on yesterday kept getting jacked up to the point where it was almost $1400.00, so I let it go. Today, I saw this same model/unit for auction for $1026.00, with about 2hrs remaining in the auction. I bid on it with 20 min. left in the auction. But when putting in my bid I was advised it was "insufficient," and I needed to add more. I did (more than it said on the listing). And I was good for about 5 min. and then I was "outbid." I added a counter bid and was, again, told it as insufficient. I kept bidding until I got the "successful" bid sign again. But, but that time, it had gotten up to $1320.00... which is what I think the merchant wanted to sell it for in the first place.


So don't go by those initial bid prices. Find the same model with a "buy now" price to see what you'll really pay. Simply because I think the merchant has "ghost buyers" that are jacking up the bids to the merchant's desired selling price. And I have to check with Gunbroker because I think some of those bids were "silent" (i.e. not reported on the system) and only known to you when you try to "counter bid" and it comes up "insufficient."



I'll advise once the item is delivered. Next task is acquiring the right FFP scope for it.

OK folks, here it is.... The long awaited "range report" on all my new inventory!


Had a rather decent day at JTAC, and I met some of my fellow "Hide" members. But I got all of my new inventory "test fired" and all went "BANG" when they were supposed to.



Now, for the AR I built at the beginning of this thread. Indeed, it went "BANG" but, sadly, it didn't cycle. I had to cycle it manually by pulling the charging handle. By doing so, the spent brass did eject properly and the new cartridge did load and go into battery. And yes, it fired and went BANG! But not enough gas pressure to make the rifle cycle... not even to push the charging handle back. So, it would appear I have some gas port/block issues to work out.



OTOH, the RPR went BANG! That thing is a beast! I really have a lot to learn in re: that rifle. First thing I have to learn is getting the proper sight picture via the scope. This, while wearing eyes and ears, etc. and not letting things like my ball cap getting in the way of getting the reticle picture. Anyway, I will have that class shortly, and hopefully, I'll have some practice in before then. Probably best to go "prone" here as I think I have better control of my head's angle against the scope, and my eyes will work better. I may seriously have to consider "contacts" rather than wear glasses. But we'll see.




Otherwise, all my other inventory (pistols, etc.) fired correctly and safely, And I tested them with both "practice ammo" (ball ammo) as well as EDC ammo (JHPs). Furthermore, I test my two shotties with both #8 Target load and 00-buck. Both my 940 JM Pro and my Shockwave did well. The kick wasn't so bad on the shockwave, but I think I'll have to find a better stance/posture to minimize recoil but get good aiming in.



Great range day and new friends made. I even got a "Wally Walk" in last night... no issues. Looking forward to the "Long Range 101" course in another month.
